Euthanasia- An ethical issue in contemporary society
The article discusses how a bill to grant euthanasia in Australia was denied in parliament.
Euthanasia is intentionally ending a life in order to relieve pain or suffering. Euthanasia laws vary from country to country. Here in Australia, Euthanasia is yet to be legalised and the ethical debate of the issue still remains. With the choice of Euthanasia a patient who is suffering from an incurable and painful disease or an irreversible coma would have the chose to end their own life, ultimately relieving them from the pain in which they have been inflicted.
However, the ethical issue which stands is that Euthanasia could be considered physician assisted suicide. To kill another person, whether given consent or not, is still classified as murder or man-slaughter.To enforce a law which challenges the laws of murder and man-slaughter, would create a very grey area for the judicial system.
The two sides of the ethical issue are for and against euthanasia, it is good as it relieves innocent citizens from pain, but bad as it confuses the laws and can be classified as assisted suicide.
